StrengthĀ and Conditioning Coaching for Triathlon
A strength programme is essential for the modern triathlete, but the prospect can be overwhelming, and even intimidating. When I started out I found the gym intimidating, I was sore for days after every workout and just didn't know what I was doing. I want to help you avoid those pitfalls.
My name is Simon, I'm a dual qualified triathlon and strength coach with nine years experience.Ā I provie an affordable strength coaching programme to help maximise your time spent strength training, while minimisingĀ the impact it has on your swimming, cycling and running. You don't need a fancy gym, in fact we can start out just with bodyweight exercises if you like.
The Solution
To successfully follow a strength programme, an athlete needs to understand two things. How, and why.Ā

This is the 27th marathon I've done (including Ironmans), and the first one that I've lined up for injury free. The only thing I can attribute it to is integrating strength work properly for the first time.
I see it as a non-negotiable to keep this up in future.

Understanding How
There are literally thousands of strength exercises to choose from, with several variations of each exercise to choose from. The choice is overwhelming, and choosing exercises can feel like a game of pin the tail on the donkey, where if you get it wrong you end up with muscle soreness and limited benefits to your triathlon performance.
IĀ take all the guesswork out of the process, so all you need to do is show up and workout. The plan evolves over the year alongside your training plan, ensuring we can reap the benefits of strength work without dominating our training schedule.Ā
All exercises come with a demonstration video and coaching points to help you perform all the exercises safely, and so you get maximum benefit.Ā
Understanding Why
Sending someone to the gym to simply "get stronger" or "reduce the risk of injury" isn't motivating. It may be enough for a 14 year old who will just do whatever an authority figure tells them, but as triathletes we need more than that. Especially if we are taking precious time out of our swimming, cycling and running training time.
I will help you feel empowered by explaining the why behind the exercises, explaining how each one improves our performance.
Lifting pieces of metal up and down on its is boring, but if I can help you make the correlation between strength and your performance on race day, we can start to feel motivated, and maybe even enjoy it.

Build Around YouĀ
We're all at a different stage on our triathlon journey. Some of us are looking to qualify for Kona who need to include dynamic barbell lifts into our programme to help us improve our leg spring stiffness for the run. Some of us are just starting out and don't even have a gym membership, but still want to include strength alongside our tri training.Ā
My bespoke strength programmes are build around your ability, equipment and time available, to ensure they fit perfectly around your training plan and lifestyle.

We all known the benefits of strength and conditioning, especially as we get older⦠ahem. The challenge for me was the what, and that is where Simon has been great. I donāt have to worry about the plan over the year or within cycles, just turn up and follow the programme.
Iām really noticing gains, out on the bike in the Alps last year I was able to do more climbs and feel better than previous trips. Niggles are (touch wood) under control and all round Iām seeing improvements. Wish Iād started āproperā S&C years ago, but definitely going to keep this going.
